May is National Bike Month!

Local Cycling Groups to Host Free Events to Get You Riding.
With the coming of Spring, National Bike Month is the time to get your bike tuned up and back
on the road. There are many reasons to enjoy cycling--from getting exercise and saving money,
to socializing and reducing your carbon footprint. The Wabash River Cycle Club and Bicycle
Lafayette are hosting events in celebration of National Bike Month.

New Rider Callout, Saturday May 13th . South Shelter at Cumberland Park, 10:30 am-1:30 pm.
Several rides depart at 11 am to accommodate various rider levels, and lunch is provided
afterward.
Cyclofemme, Sunday May 14 th. Courtyard at Virtuous Cycles, 9 am-11 am.
This is a global event and features brunch, activities, and a family-friendly ride at 10 am.
Ride of Silence, Wednesday May 17th . Riehle Plaza, 7 pm- 9 pm.
A global event with a basic, medium-paced ride in honor of those hurt or killed while cycling.
Bike to Work Day, Friday May 19 th. West Side of Myers Pedestrian Bridge, 7:30 am- 9:30 am.
Hear from local governments and activists about their commitment to the cycling community,
over coffee and breakfast.
Wabash River Ride Training Program, Saturday May 20th . Lilly Nature Center, 11 am-12 pm.
A slow, 3 mile ride on multi-use trails where you can practice tips and techniques for cycling
endurance.
Womens Ride, every Wednesday starting on May 24 th . Klondike Branch of TCPL, 6 pm-8:30
pm.
There will be two groups, one paced 11-13 mph, one paced 13-15 mph, riding 20-25 miles. This
is a good ride for beginners.

Bicycle Lafayette is a non-profit whose mission is to promote cycling as a safe, viable, and
healthy form of transportation and recreation in Lafayette and West Lafayette. Founded in 2012,
Bicycle Lafayette works with local governments and businesses to advocate for a better cycling
community, and hosts casual and social rides as well as bicycle rodeos for kids.

Wabash River Cycle Club in a non-profit that promotes bicycling in the Wabash River corridor by
staging regular rides and events throughout the area. WRCC was founded in 1978 and they are
known for hosting weekly rides for different skill levels and organizing a century ride in August,
the Wabash River Ride (August 26 th this year).
