Don’t Know Where to Turn for Help?

Want to learn what resources are available in the community and how to “plug into the system” utilizing local, state and federal services?

If so, consider enrolling in the 2017 Peer/Union Counseling Program, which informs people about our community’s human services programs and how to access them. Participants learn to listen, communicate, evaluate, and make referrals to appropriate community agencies for those who need help.

Classes begin on Wednesday, February 1st and run consecutive Wednesday evenings (6:00pm – 9:00pm) for 10 weeks. Classes meet at various social service agencies and union halls each week.

Speakers are professionals and local service providers. Topics covered include foreclosure prevention, rehabilitation (drug/alcohol) programs and services, eldercare, homelessness, emergency services (housing, food, utilities) and a poverty simulation workshop. A complete schedule with topics, dates, and class locations will be available at the first session on February 1st at the IBEW Local #668 Union Hall located at 2535 South 30th street in Lafayette (just off of Teal Rd. by ALCOA—now ARCONIC).

Registration is $50.00 and includes all course materials and ticket for the graduation banquet at the end of the 10 week program. Pre-registration is required. This program has continued since 1979 and is sponsored by the Lafayette Chapter of the Northern Indiana Area Labor Federation (NIALF) with the cooperation of the United Way of Greater Lafayette. Checks should be made out to NIALF and mailed to:
